The breaking in and training process...

The average time for a horse to be broken in is 6 to 8 weeks depending on the horse and owner requirements. Horses who are booked in with Tom for training and education are required for a minimum of 4 weeks.

Tom's approach to starting and educating horses is kind and natural with mutual respect. Tom works with the horse on their level but expects all horses to be able to give him their 100% attention and try.

Tom strongly believes that all horses are unique and so should their training journey. Each horse will move through the training journey differently.

  • Early on...

In the beginning all horses are worked from the ground taking the time to build a relationship and establish fundamentals like moving off pressure and getting the horse used to you in their zone. Tom will often use a lead horse to help apply this pressure from above.

  • Middle...

Once horses understand the basics of moving off pressure, including bit pressure, and are used to the saddle and bridle its time for their first ride. First rides are never rushed the aim of a first ride is to make it as comfortable for the horse as possible, aiming for the horse to move forward freely but calmly.

  • By the time they leave...

By the time horses leave the property they have an established foundation ready for their rider to continue their training journey. All horses are worked in and out of an arena, been on trail rides out, hard tie, yield off pressure, pick up feet, whilst also being exposed to many other things including cattle, traffic, machinery noises etc..

Tom is usually booked out 3-6 months in advanced so be sure to contact early. Check out the contact information on the contact page.
